So, I haven’t been here in a long time. Oh well. Not a whole lot I can do about that. I spent some time this morning going over Hebrews 7:1-10. I found myself quite confused. It spoke of Melchizedek, and how he was a priest although not of the levitical line.
|7:8 In the one case, the tenth is collected by men who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living.|
|7:9 One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham,|
These were the verses that I was quite confused with. And then, a quite smart person explained the situation to me: “Priests, who collect the tithe for God, die. Him who is declared to be living is a direct reference to Jesus. Because He (Christ) doesn’t die, He is an infinitely better priest than a human priest.Levi was still in the body of his ancestor; I like the King James here. It says Levi was still in the loins of his father. That is, before he was born, his father, acting in his place, gave tithes for him.” How much sense does that make!! Amazing. I thought I had a lot more insight to give than I do. Sadness. If I find more to say, Ill post it.
